Quit Apps

List running apps and how much memory and CPU each one uses. Quit an app with a click, force quit one that doesn’t respond, or quit all the others at once before a meeting or a demo.

Works with Always available, nothing to selectFree

How to use it

Select something, hold the right mouse button, swipe. The animation plays the steps one after another; click a step to see it again.

  1. No need to select anythingIt works wherever you are.
  2. Hold the right mouse buttonAbout a quarter of a second. A short click still opens the usual menu.
  3. Swipe to “Quit Apps” and let goIt sits on the ring where you put it, and it’s always in All Actions.
  4. Memory and CPU for each app
  5. Sort by CPU to find the busy one
  6. Quit it with a click
  7. Or quit all the othersIt asks first, and keeps the app you’re using.

What it does

Lists the running apps and how much memory and CPU each one uses, counting the processes it started; the numbers update while the card is open.

Sort by memory or by CPU to find the app that’s draining the battery or heating up; anything using more than a full core is orange.

Click Quit and the app leaves the list once it has quit. If it’s still running a few seconds later, Force Quit appears.

Quit Other Apps asks first, then quits everything except the app you’re using: a clean slate before a meeting or a demo. Apps still ask about unsaved documents.

Install it

Plugins aren’t part of the Pop download. Install this one when you need it.

1From Settings

In Pop’s Settings › Actions, find “Quit Apps” under Plugins at the top and click Install. It downloads from Pop’s GitHub release in a few seconds and works right away, without a restart.

2Or from the ring

Open All Actions on the ring and search for “Quit Apps”. Plugins that aren’t installed are listed after your actions: click it to install, and it runs right away if it can handle what you selected.

3Then use it your way

Put it on the ring in Settings › Ring, give it a shortcut, or run it from Shortcuts and scripts with its link:

pop://run?plugin=quitApps

Uninstall it from the same list when you no longer need it: the plugin and its settings are deleted. After Pop updates, installed plugins are updated with it, and with iCloud sync on, what you install syncs to your other Macs.
