Voice Recorder

Record sound from the microphone and save it as an .m4a file in Downloads; while recording, a small bar at the top of the screen shows the time and level and can pause, and you can transcribe the recording afterwards. Use it again while recording to stop.

  1. No need to select anythingIt works wherever you are.
  2. Hold the right mouse buttonAbout a quarter of a second. A short click still opens the usual menu.
  3. Swipe to “Voice Recorder” and let goIt sits on the ring where you put it, and it’s always in All Actions.
  4. Recording starts right awayThe bar at the top shows the time and level.
  5. Stop when you’re done

What it does

Record your voice from the microphone and save it as an .m4a in Downloads, named like “Recording 2026-10-01 15.42”.

While recording, a small bar at the top of the screen shows a red dot, the time and a level meter; pause, resume or stop from it. Screen recordings and screenshots leave the bar out.

When it’s saved, show it in Finder or, with the Transcribe plugin, turn it into text.

Use Voice Recorder again to stop. Quitting Pop saves the recording first.

Install it

Plugins aren’t part of the Pop download. Install this one when you need it.

1From Settings

In Pop’s Settings › Actions, find “Voice Recorder” under Plugins at the top and click Install. It downloads from Pop’s GitHub release in a few seconds and works right away, without a restart.

2Or from the ring

Open All Actions on the ring and search for “Voice Recorder”. Plugins that aren’t installed are listed after your actions: click it to install, and it runs right away if it can handle what you selected.

3Then use it your way

Put it on the ring in Settings › Ring, give it a shortcut, or run it from Shortcuts and scripts with its link:

pop://run?plugin=voiceRecorder

Uninstall it from the same list when you no longer need it: the plugin and its settings are deleted. After Pop updates, installed plugins are updated with it, and with iCloud sync on, what you install syncs to your other Macs.
